Thousands of Americans were killed by police in the United States in the year 2015.
Police brutality and excessive violence has been a longstanding issue in this country.
Black Americans were killed by police at more than twice the rate as white Americans.
Here we can see that killings were by no means equal across races and that the Black American population is impacted the most by fatal police shootings.
The age of shooting victims for white Americans skews younger
The largest concentration of white victims in terms of age is around the 30-40 years old, which is roughly half of the life expectancy of an American in 2015, meaning these victims effectively had their lives cut in half because of police violence.
But Black victims are significantly younger
Looking at the age distribution of people shot by police separated by race shows us that the black people being shot are much younger than white people, demonstrating how Black lives are being taken away far earlier than their white counterparts.
