Information Visualization Final Project 2016

Instructions

To collapse a sub tree, click on an internal node. To search the position of a specific species, or to find all species that are members of a common clades, enter that into the search box and click the search button or press the enter key. The found nodes will turn purple. For example, entering "Fungi" or "Chordata" into the search bar and hitting enter will turn the links in the Fungi sub tree purple. The search is CASE SENSITIVE. Clear search results by clicking on the "Clear Search" button. The path to the last common ancestor shared between any number of nodes will be highlighted red when any number of leaves are selected (the selected leaves and the last common ancestor node will also ligth up red). To select a node, click on the node itself or on the node lable. Click on a selected node to de-select it (this will change the node's color from red back to blue, recolor the link blakc, and will remove that species from the bar chart). Hover over a node to get more information about that species' taxonomy in the information box on the upper right side of the page. When leaf nodes are selected, the bar chart entitled "Distance from the Last Common Ancestor" will show the extent to which each of the selected species have diverged from the last common ancestor between them. You can hover over the bars of the chart to get a tooltip with the exact distance from the species the bar represents to the last common ancestor. Zoom into and out of the tree by using the mouse to scroll over it, and drag the position of the tree around by clicking down on any part of the tree or background and moving the mouse. Because scrolling over the tree is used for zooming, to scroll normally up and down the page, or side to side, make sure to place your mouse on the white areas of the page.
