Thesis timeline
I would like a timeline that breaks down how you will spend the rest of the semester.
I’m not giving you a lot of time on this (though I mentioned it on Friday), because I don’t think you should stress on this over much. What I would like to see is a week by week breakdown of how you will spend your semester. Here is an example for my hypothetical study on dance visualization:
Week | Dates | Activity |
---|---|---|
01 | 02/08 - 02/14 | Finalize topic, find references, write proposal |
02 | 02/15 - 02/21 | Read up on existing visualizations and look into motion capture technology, write outline |
03 | 02/22 - 02/28 | Figure out motion capture technology |
04 | 03/01 - 02/07 | Write proof of concept motion capture app, come up with at least three ideas for visualizations |
05 | 03/08 - 03/14 | Get app to capture movement and display simple visualization |
06 | 03/15 - 03/21 | Implement more interesting visualization |
07 | 03/22 - 03/28 | Chase bugs |
08 | 03/29 - 04/04 | Write first draft of thesis, start recording dancers |
09 | 04/05 - 04/11 | Record dancers and start analyzing results |
10 | 04/12 - 04/18 | Finish second draft of thesis |
11 | 04/19 - 04/25 | Work on final draft of thesis, finish analysis |
12 | 04/26 - 05/02 | Work on final draft of thesis, write presentation |
13 | 05/03 - 05/09 | Give presentation, work on final draft of thesis |
14 | 05/10 - 05/16 | Turn in thesis, make poster, make fixes suggested by thesis readers |
15 | 05/17 - 05/18 | Final polish and printing of thesis |
As you can see, this is a combination of hard deadlines and educated guesses. Some of the work continues into the writing stages (since this is an implementation based project), but the bulk of it is done before I got into the second draft of the thesis. The only thing left is some last minute analysis time. Be conservative with estimates of what you can get done (but not with your efforts to accomplish them – your goal should be ahead of ,not on, schedule).
Please submit your work as a PDF on Moodle.
