CS 466 - Assignment One

Due: 2017-02-16 12:00p

Objectives

This exercise is just to get you thinking a bit about design. Start by reading chapter one of The Design of Everyday Things by Don Norman. I have posted the chapter as a resource on Piazza. I am giving you this chapter under fair use for educational purposes, so please do not distribute.

In the chapter Norman discusses five concepts (with a sixth left for later). Make sure to pay attention to these.

Your exercise is to identify two objects, one that demonstrates a good application of one of these concepts, and one that demonstrates a poor application of one of these concepts. They don't have to demonstrate an overall good or bad object/design, they just need to have a good or bad application of one of these principles. Please do not use the same principle for both objects. (You should also avoid regurgitating examples from the text)

For each object I would like a photo (or two if appropriate) (taken by you or from somewhere else), and a paragraph that identifies which concept you are dealing with and how it applies to your object.

Do this work in Google Slides. Put your image on the slide, and the paragraph in the notes section. Add a title slide that has your name on it, and share it with me.

Please note the time – I would like to combine these together so we can talk about them in class.
